My 3 favorite pages!

These were by far three of my favorite pages to draw in the book. These are near the end of the 1st issue when things are getting towards the weird climax. I won't be posting too many pages from the 1st issue on this blog, b/c thats what http://jcray.deviantart.com/ is for, but I figured I would show off my three favorites before I got some much needed sleep. I managed to throw a tribute to 'Nightmare on Elm Street' in there also!

Was your grade school teacher a gargoyle?

This is the illustrated picture of the 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Woemen. When I designed her I was thinking 1 part nagging old woman/ 1 part gargoyle.I think I nailed it. Imagine every teacher you didn't like growing up & combine them into one person, this is that teacher, trust me.

All of the sites where you can get info. on the book will be posted on this image in the inside back cover of the book including this blog, my deviant art page, e-mail, my soon to be facebook page for the book, & all sites where the book can be purchased. Yeah 'Grade 5' coming to a comic store near you, well eventually that is!

The Show Goes On

If you're looking for some kind of inspiration. Look no further, this is Lupe Fiasco's new video for his 1st official single off of his next album 'LASERS.' It's not 'Grade 5' related, but it deserves to be mentioned. This song gets me hyped whether I'm drawing, going out, or trying not to crash in my POS car.

Following the Holidays

Following the Christmas holiday & going into the new year, its time to make a push with Grade 5, I have some cool things planned for the series as I start my strategy to get the series picked up by a comic publisher in 2011. But even if it doesn't get picked up right away, I believe I can keep a bi-monthly schedule for releasing the issues. I'm currently writing issue 2 & will start drawing it shortly.

So you guys can expect some cool things in the series, especially in issue two, now that the characters have already been introduced. Issue one was basically a pilot for the series.  In issue # 2, I plan on introducing at least 3 new characters, a new romance, new enemies for the 5 main characters (that's them above), a very awkward situation, & the largest battle that has ever taken place on a play ground. So stick with me hear folks, I have some sick stuff planned!

I don't feel like a kid anymore!

This is the 1st post for my blog about the book I'm creating. So let's keep it interesting, short, & the opposite of adult shall we. Well, with all the sweat, learning, & money being thrown into this project that I'm calling 'Grade 5' I feel way too much like an adult. But all the stress & head aches have created a high learning curve about the way the comic industry is run & the way I'm running my life. So with that being said, I guess all that learning I'm doing is kind of kid like, oh did I mention I'm having a ton of fun too! That in of itself is me 'behaving like a kid.' All I need is a dodge ball to throw at some one & a carton of milk, preferably chocolate.

Stick with me here, because I plan to post some pretty interesting things.
